Some of this city's best fun is east of the Arkansas River. That's where you'll find both the Philbrook Museum of Art and the Gilcrease Museum , plus parks like Mohawk and Woodward . Travel guides will tell you to visit the Blue Dome District for nightlife, but the Brookside neighborhood is an up-and-comer with great wine bars to visit in the evening and interesting shops to explore in the afternoon.

Though it's kind of small compared to other zoos across the country, Tulsa's iteration does do well with what it's got, according to recent guests. Although some are a little heartbroken with so few animals -- you'll find "THE lemur, THE giraffe, THE aviary," says a disappointed TripAdvisor traveler -- there are actually 2,800 animal residents in total. The chimpanzees, prairie dogs and Asian elephants are the most popular of the bunch. In spring, summer and fall you can take a tour of the grounds atop a camel (a super cool experience according to those who've had the opportunity to do so). And there's also a 25-foot climbing wall and a "Frogger" bungee harness ride.

The Tulsa Zoo and Living Museum sits pretty along 84 acres of the city's northeastern Mohawk Park. You can enter the zoo between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. in summer, and starting at 9 a.m. other times of year. The zoo then closes at 5 p.m. each day. Admission costs $8 for adults and $4 for children ages three to 11, plus there's a $2 parking fee at Mohawk Park from April to October. Visit the website for more details and prices on the camel tour, climbing wall and Frogger ride.
